PUBLIC DIPLOMACY OF EU IN THE CONTEXT OF IMPLEMENTING THE ENVIRONMENTAL AGENDA
Abstract
The EU's environmental agenda is defined by the European Green Deal. It is about achieving climate neutrality by 2050, ensuring the sustainability of economic development and the well-being of the European community. The implementation of ambitious climate goals should be facilitated by a multi-format political dialogue with stakeholders aimed at finding effective tools for collective response to probable climate risks. Political leadership in responding to climate risks is a key tool for strategizing the future of the EU. Public diplomacy as a set of means of influencing the public, contributing to the realization of interests of the political subjects. It was specified that public diplomacy were aimed at coordinating the efforts of political actors to promote their values, programs of activities by attracting leadership potential of leaders, expanding channels of communication, resulting in the formation of long-term partnerships. The main tools of public diplomacy are the organization of special events, agenda formation, dialogue with stakeholders. The EU is actively involved in organizing special events to draw stakeholders' attention to environmental issues and to intensify green partnerships. These include the European Green Week and the Natura 2000 award for environmental excellence. The participation of leading EU leaders in special events helps to position the importance of the environmental agenda and intensify cooperation with stakeholders. The EU plays a leading role in synchronizing the efforts of the international community to achieve climate neutrality and find tools to respond to environmental challenges. This includes an ongoing political dialogue with partner countries on climate neutrality, environmental initiatives under the «Global Gateway» and the «Global Methane Pledge».
