One of the main tasks at the stage of training a future police specialists in higher education is the formation of their professional self-awareness, which helps them to understand the correct choice of profession, helps to see the prospects of personal and professional development, allows active involvement in early and then professional activities. The purpose of the article – to highlight the results of an empirical study of professional self-awareness, which reveal its content and structure, as well as to analyze the author’s model of content-structural components of professional self-awareness of future police professionals in the university education process. The author’s model of the structure of professional self-consciousness of future police specialists at the stage of higher education, obtained by factor analysis of data (psychodiagnostic measurement (n = 140) of the main components of professional self-consciousness of future police officers – I–IV courses cadets). The article describes and analyzes the characteristics and content of its structural components, identified by factor analysis: “emotional competence” (emotional intelligence, empathy, emotional awareness, the ability to recognize other people’s emotions and influence their emotional state), which has the greatest factor load; “Educational and professional motivation” (motivational component: the desire to acquire knowledge based on awareness of social necessity, responsibility, personal benefit to society); “Volitional self-regulation” (volitional component: volitional regulation of one’s life support processes: stability of intentions, activity, self-confidence, developed sense of duty); “Value development” (value component: social approval and respect, independent choice of ways of action, safety for other people and oneself, identification with traditions, customs and ideas of one’s profession); “Personal development” (personal component: independence in judgments and behaviour, competition for higher social and professional status). The results of the study will be used in the future to develop psychological programs for the formation of professional self-awareness of future police professionals, taking into account the specifics of their training and further professional activities.
