PECULIARITIES OF EMPIRICAL RESEARCH OF LEADERSHIP POTENTIAL IN STUDENTS OF TECHNICAL INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER EDUCATION

Abstract

Substantive social significance of leadership potential as a psychological phenomenon is of clearly collective nature and the growing competition in the context of accelerating scientific and technological progress gives rise to a certain aggravation of interpersonal relations. The considered circumstances affect the nature of the engineer’s personal development, the formation of his leadership potential. Therefore, empirical research of leadership potential is an important and urgent problem, the solution of which should significantly improve the quality of engineering activities, and hence the functional and technical, economic and environmental, ergonomic and aesthetic level of devices and technologies used, which ensure the effectiveness of this area in the market economy. The analysis of recent research confirms the importance, relevance and substantial theoretical and applied significance of the diagnosis of leadership potential. This can be proved by the works of the following scientists: P. Koestenbaum, K. Hodgkinson, E. Kudryashova (value aspects of leadership); E. Voronov, M. Goncharenko, V. Yermakov, O. Kovaleva, O. Semenov, O. Sventsytsky, U. Bennis, E. Bogardus, S. Vasyltsov, O. Kryshtanovskaya, R. Mills, X. Ortega-i- Gasset, W. Pareto (personal aspects of leadership in various fields); Mykhailychenko V., Romanovsky O. (pedagogy of leadership); Knysh A., Pidbutska N., Chala Yu. (Psychological readiness for the development of leadership competencies). Insufficient information was devoted to the methods of diagnosis and formation of leadership potential in the technical university. The definition of leadership potential, which is considered as the ability and willingness of a person to effective leadership behavior, is provided in the article. The essence of personality-reflexive; cognitive-professional; value-motivational; behavioral or organizational and managerial; emotional and communicative components is considered in detail. The results of empirical research of leadership potential in students of technical university with the help of special testing methods are presented. The effectiveness of testing after a molding experiment is proved in the article. The main points of the role of organizing meetings with leaders-graduates of technical universities during the formation of leadership qualities are indicated. It is noted that from the standpoint of pedagogical support, the formation of leadership potential in students of technical institutions of higher education involves the implementation of appropriate methods, techniques and tools not in diagnostics only but also in the use of psychological training to discover and enhance leadership potential in students during professional training. The applied methods “Diagnosis of leadership skills”; “Self-assessment of leadership”; psychogeometric test; multifactor leadership questionnaire proved to be effective and statistically reliable for diagnosing leadership potential in students of a technical institution of higher education. The author proposed methods and forms of trainings on formation of leadership potential and the role of meetings with leaders – graduates of technical universities for implementation in training undergraduate and graduate engineering universities in teaching subjects of philosophical, sociological, psychological and pedagogical direction.
