The article has analyzed objective and subjective factors of students’ psychological adaptation to taking ZNO (External Independent Testing). The procedure of taking ZNO by students has been defined as an emotionally stressful situation in life of seniors since the process of doing a test is accompanied by such manifestations as burnout, self-deprivation, disorganization, a sense of block or a lack of time, self-centration etc. The above has been explained by liveliness of events, a need to take correct decisions promptly, internal dissonance between “I want” and “I can” taking place in students’ consciousness. It has been proved that contradiction between a desire, available and due causes the origin of persistent negative emotions, including a sense of helplessness, debility and desperation. Indeed, success of the adaptive process is supported by mental changes, a switch of seniors to a higher level of personal development, acquisition of confidence and believe in oneself, own capabilities, ego boost of a young person. The students’ adaptation to taking ZNO has been regarded as a process of adjusting the mental, physical and functional organization of student personality to new conditions and methods of determining a level of educational achievements. The author has considered adaptation as a process and adaptability as an ability (innate and learned) of a person to adapt as critically important prerequisites for taking the test without such negative feelings as discomfort, anxiety, tension and stress. It has been justified the formation of relevant adaptive behavior depends on a set of factors both of objective and subjective nature. The key tasks of students’ psychological adaptation to taking ZNO are to form their persistent psychological and physical readiness to use their all resources to demonstrate the highest possible level of a particular kind of knowledge, skills and expertise in new and unfamiliar conditions over a short period of time. In the course of the empirical research, it has been established that statistically significant subjective factors of the process of psychological adaptation of students to taking ZNO are an emotional component – a level of state anxiety, reflexive – an indicator of self-esteem of participants, and behavioral component – coping aimed at searching for the social support in emotionally stressful situations.
