NATIONAL IDENTITY OF FOREIGN STUDENTS AT UKRAINIAN HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTION
Abstract
Positive and clear national identity of student youth, as citizens of the state, ensures the stability of each nation. Student age is determined by sensitive in the development of the national identity of the individual. The purpose of the article is to investigate experimentally the parameters of the national identity of foreign students in higher education institutions of Ukraine. The psychological essence of the phenomenon “National Identity” is highlighted. In the experimental study, modified methods for evaluating the positivity and clarity of ethnic identity and ethnic affiliations are applied. More foreign students of Ukrainian higher education institutions distinguish a high level of positivity of national identity, much less – the average and low level. A larger number of studied characterizes the low level of clarity of national identity, much less – high and average levels. In a greater number of foreign students in higher education institutions, the average and low levels of national affiliations aspirations are revealed. The investigated do not have a high level of these aspirations. In a greater number of foreign students of higher education institutions, the average and low levels of anti-national affiliation aspirations are established, in a smaller number – high level. With the help of mathematical statistics methods, it is proved that foreign students of Ukrainian higher education institutions with prevailing national affiliations aspirations are more positive to its own nationality and national affiliations, as opposed to anti-national affiliations aspirations. Also, foreign students of higher education institutions with prevailing national affiliations aspirations are clearer aware of their nationality and national affiliation, compared with anti-national affiliations aspirations studied.
