TOLERANCE OF THE INSIGNIFICANCE OF PERSONS WITH DIFFERENT FEATURES OF RELIGIOSITY
Abstract
The article is devoted to the analysis of the tolerance to human uncertainty in the context of their religiosity. The conclusions were drawn based on an empirical study that included persons who considered themselves religious believers (Christians). 98 persons took part in the study: 43 men and 55 women. Be relying on the collected empirical data and conducted mathematicalstatistical analysis, it was found that an individual’s religiosity is related to their tolerance of uncertainty. If a devout believer seeks and receives a psychological resource from the followed religion (in the present study, all respondents considered themselves Christians), this will contribute to a higher level of tolerance of uncertainty. It has been proven that tolerance of uncertainty is higher in those individuals who have deep experiences of religious content and in those whose religious faith is stronger. A person’s tolerance of uncertainty is related to whether he regards religion as moral ideals to follow. If a person finds a vector for his moral development in religion, the general tolerance of uncertainty in such devout believers will be higher, compared to those believers who are not oriented to the moral ideals of the religion they practice. The presence of magical thinking, which may be characteristic of a devout believer, affects lowering the level of tolerance of uncertainty in situations that cannot be resolved. Difficult life circumstances will be more calmly and tolerantly appreciated and perceived by devout believers who seek to find solace and support in religion. It was found that individuals with more pronounced religiosity are characterized by a higher level of general tolerance of uncertainty. They perceive unknown circumstances more calmly and react more tolerantly to situations that cannot be solved. The articles proves that women’s general tolerance of uncertainty is related to the expectation of comfort and support in religion. In women, the interdependence between tolerance to unsolvable situations and external manifestations of religiosity was established. The more signs that indicate external religiosity, the more tolerant women will be to inevitable and unchanging circumstances. The mentioned features were not found in men.
