Abstract

The article is devoted to reinterpretation of the artifacts’ names. It comes according to metaphorical model “artifact ‒ abstraction” on the basis of similarity in feature in Ukrainian, German and English languages. The issue of semantic development continues to be relevant in modern linguistics. Most often, attention is paid to the study of metaphor as one of the mechanisms of acquisition of figurative names. Despite the fact that a large number of scientific works are devoted to metaphor as the most productive creative means of language enrichment, linguists continue to study this semantic process energetically. Metaphor has been found to have the ability to create similarities between different objects. The cognitive-discursive paradigm opened the door for the study of metaphorical modeling that allowed identifying and analyzing the features of figurative-associative thinking of native speakers of Ukrainian, German and English. The study revealed the artifacts’ names that are components of fixed collocation in Ukrainian, German and English. An artifact is any artificially created object that bears the imprint of the human spirit, because such an object is created in the culture that generates it and has a certain secret meaning. The figurative meanings of the artifacts names that occur through metaphorical transposition on the basis of similarity by feature are characterized by both similarities and differences in the Ukrainian, German and English languages. The similarities in the acquisition of figurative meaning by artifacts name are in a certain coincidence of fragments of the real world in different cultures, because a person is characterized by the ability to have the same perception of the objective world, and it has a mental basis. The revealed differences are explained by the properties of the associative mechanism of various language consciousnesses which indicate the specificity of the national-figurative world view and reveal its uniqueness. The choice of motivational trait that became the basis of the transfer showed that the ways of reality perception in each linguistic and cultural community are different.
