The methodology of content and language integrated learning (CLIL) is analyzed in the article. The practical application of the CLIL methodology in social-pedagogical disciplines is examined. The article is devoted to CLIL methodology and its application in social sciences. CLIL stands for Content and Language Integrated Learning and refers to teaching subjects such as social sciences, history, geography and others to students through a foreign language. The term CLIL was coined by David Marsh, University of Jyväskylä, Finland (1994). According to the author CLIL refers to situations where subjects, or parts of subjects, are taught through a foreign language with dualfocused aims, namely the learning of content and the simultaneous learning of a foreign language. The auther of the article points out that with the expansion of the European Union, diversity of language and the need for communication are seen as central issues. With increased contact between countries, there will be an increase in the need for communicative skills in a second or third language. The basis of CLIL is that content subjects are taught and learnt in a language which is not the mother tongue of the learners. Language is seen in real-life situations in which students can acquire the language. This is natural language development which builds on other forms of learning. CLIL is longterm learning and based on language acquisition rather than enforced learning. The auther notes that knowledge of the language becomes the means of learning content and language is integrated into the broad curriculum. The main difficulty which is stressed in the article is the shortage of authentic materials of social sciences using in social pedagogical disciplines. In conclusion the author writes that attention needs to be given to the training of teachers and the development of frameworks and methods which will improve the quality of language education.
